ACTIVITIES

Activities on our property:

*Swimming in the black bottom "Lagoon Style" Pool or Hot Tub in the patio behind our rooms
*Hunting for arrowheads and fossils along the riverbank
*Sitting under the "Big Tree" with a good book and a cold drink
*Swimming and wading in the Sabinal River.  We have shallow areas
     for supervised children and deeper pools for older kids and adults
*Fishing along the best fly fishing part of the Sabinal River (catch & release)
*Observing local wildlife such as Axis and White Tail deer, wild Turkeys,
     Hummingbirds, Fireflies, and even thoroughbred Horses next door
*Sitting in our Great Room and just letting go of the stress and
     visiting with friends

Activities in the local area:

Lost Maples State Natural Area
is well-known for the Fall colors peaking in mid-October through mid-November. Perfect any time of the year for hiking, it is located 17 miles north of the lodge near Vanderpool, Texas.

Garner State Park
was established in 1941 and was named for John Nance Garner of Uvalde, who served as Vice-President of the United States under Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933 to 1941. The Park is located on the Frio River, one of the many crystal clear spring fed rivers in our region.  Enjoy tubing, hiking, hayrides and historic evening dances at The Pavilion under the night skies.

Hill Country State Natural Area
an undeveloped and secluded state park, is tucked away in the rugged terrain southwest of Bandera.  Approximately 40 miles of multi-use trails wind up grassy valleys, cross spring-fed streams, and climb up steep limestone hills.  The terrain ranges from flat, broad, creek bottoms to steep, rocky canyons up to 2000 feet in elevation.  Activities include mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, horseback riding and some fishing.

Utopia Golf Course
is located 1 mile from Utopia on the River.  Immortalized in the book "Golf's Sacred Journey, Seven Days at The Links of Utopia," byDavid L. Cook, Ph.D., and the movie "Seven Days in Utopia," Utopia Golf offers a 9-hole course with no need for a tee time; just come on out and play a round or two. 830-966-5577

Frio Bat Flight
is the 2nd largest Bat population in the World and the largest bat population that's open to the public. This cave is located on a private ranch near Concan, Texas, and is a "must see" for the whole family,

Concan Golf Course
is located in Concan, Texas, and stands as one of the most challenging in Texas at over 7300 yards in length and a course rating of 75.9 and slope rating of 138.  830-232-4471.

Love Creek Orchards
is located on Hwy 16 in Medina, Texas. At the Orchard, you will find a variety of activities that your family can enjoy at different times of the year.  Pick fresh blackberries in May and June, apples in July, figs in August and visit their pumpkin patch in October.  Year round, the Apple Store has "apple everything" including homemade apple ice cream, 5-pound apple pies and lots of specialty gift items.  The Store also has a patio cafe for lunch or just a snack.  800-449-0882
